Active Travel
Holywell Town is connected to Greenfield using an active travel route for cycling through Greenfield Valley and it is also fortunate that the town is located at the centre of a network of quiet country lanes connecting with a dozen or so picturesque villages.
These lanes pass through unspoiled countryside, some with views towards the River Dee estuary and beyond in one direction and in the other towards the Clwydian hills, enabling cyclists to enjoy exploring and discovering the Holywell hinterland at a leisurely pace.
A section of Sustrans’ National Route 5 runs close by. To the east, this section leaves the coastal route at Bagillt and climbs steeply to Brynford Common some 700ft/213m above sea level, passing just a mile or so from Holywell before descending to join the coastal route again near Gronant.

Fishing
There are several angling opportunities in the countryside surrounding the town, whether one’s interest is coarse, trout or saltwater fishing.
One advantage of a day’s fishing somewhere other than in the well publicised angling ‘honey pot’ areas, of course, is fewer anglers and on some days at some fisheries, it’s even possible to find that you have the place all to yourself or that you’re just sharing it with a friend.
Off the beaten angling track the Holywell area might be but in addition to solitude, there are two other things every visiting angler can be certain about. The first is that all the fisheries are well stocked with good sized hard fighting fish. The second is peaceful and picturesque surroundings.
