Sunday 23 August saw the Waterhouse Cup competition taking place at Fron Park Road in Holywell, with Mayor of Holywell, Pat Corbett in attendance to present prizes and the Waterhouse Cup.
This is a crown green bowls singles competition that is competed for annually and is one of the most prestigious competitions in North Wales. The silver cup that they play for was presented to the club in 1942 by Alderman Thomas Waterhouse who, at the time, was the High Sheriff of Flintshire and the competition is now sponsored by Holywell Town Council. There was some great bowling from a field of 41 players representing some of the best bowlers in Wales and England.
After a long hard competition throughout the day, the final was Jason Jones of Abergele and Kris Fearnley of St Asaph, two top Welsh bowlers. It was another closely contested final, with Jason eventually emerging as the winner by 21 points to 15 points.
After a few words from the club chairman Neale Charlton the Mayor was called upon to present the prizes to the last eight players and to award the Waterhouse trophy to Jason as he won it for the first time after many years of trying.
